Sony Ericsson Xperia Pro

Overall Rating

Sony Ericsson Xperia Pro DealsThe Sony Ericsson Xperia Pro is the first side slider mobile featuring the Android 2.3 OS. The full QWERTY keyboard supports a decent size 3.7 inch display for text entry and messaging. Powered by a 1GHz core processor and the Sony Bravia display engine, the Xperia Pro works beautifully both as a touch screen and full QWERTY phone. If you send a lot of email or text messages from your phone then you can benefit from the physical keyboard without having to compromise on the additional power and flexibility that “touch” brings to the Android platform making it a great choice for both personal and business use.

Overview

The Sony Ericsson Xperia Pro performs surprisingly well with only its single core 1GHz core processor and 512MB RAM.  A comfortable design that fits the hand well when closed, the mobile is available in black, silver or red finishes.  At 140 grams, it has a nice solid heft and the slide out keyboard works smoothly.  From a design perspective though, the physical power and function buttons located around the edges of the mobile are very small and fiddly to use positively.

The Sony Ericsson Xperia Pro brings a fully functional keyboard to the Android mobile user. Nice chiclet layout and tactile feedback provide better control while typing input for text messaging, Internet browsing, email and even documents using the included Office Suite Pro application. Unlike virtual keyboards, you have the entire screen available in landscape to view your keyboarding interaction with the app you are using.  With a fully capable touch screen though, you can also use the virtual keyboard for quick inputs while leaving the slider closed.

The browser on the Sony Ericsson Xperia Pro features fast scrolling and smooth zooming. The slide out keyboard is particularly useful when completing text entries in web pages, forms or working your social apps, updating status and tweeting. The 3.7 inch screen provides comfortable viewing and reading while performing your Internet tasks.

The 8 MP camera with LED flash on the Sony Ericsson Xperia Pro produces average results for both indoor and outdoor photos. A front facing camera is included for video chats with your mates using any of the available Android apps for this service.

The Sony Ericsson Xperia Pro records 720p HD video at a full 30fps with continuous autofocus and face detection while recording. While nice, the continuous autofocus can be slow to adjust causing blurring during the filming. Video detail is satisfactory for 720p Hi Def resolution. There is no onscreen film control so you have to use the tiny physical side keys to start and stop your recordings.
Playback of prerecorded video is smooth and sounds great over the mobile’s built in speaker. The speaker also produces clear and fairly loud output from the solid music player included with the Xperia Pro.  Features of the music app include cover browsing and song recognition. The mobile also supports video and music streaming capability.

Mobile call and connection quality on the Sony Ericsson Xperia Pro is excellent. In call volume is clear and crisp. Whether you use your mobile for business or pleasure, the Sony Ericsson Xperia Pro is a keyboarder’s delight.
