The Apple iPhone 4 has been on the market since summer 2010. It’s a sure bet that Apple fans already own the iPhone4. So, for those who are shopping for a new mobile phone because their current phone is dead, lost or boring, you may be wondering if you should jump on the iPhone 4, wait for the iPhone 4S or choose another Smartphone altogether.
If you are used to an older style mobile phone then the look of the iPhone 4 is most appealing. The Apple iPhone 4 is a more refined look and is much thinner compared to the iPhone 3GS or 3G. The Retina 3.5-inch, 640×960-pixel resolution, touchscreen display is new and improved over the 3G models. The older iPhone screen turned a light grey when turned off leaving you to wonder if it really was off. Instead, the iPhone 4 screen goes dark which doesn’t leave you to wonder. It’s much prettier to look at than the older style mobiles, you know the clunky “Dumbphones”. The front-facing camera is well disguised as to not impact the aesthetics. Probably the biggest disappointment is the feel of the Apple iPhone 4. It’s smaller than the iPhone 3G’s yet the edges are sharper and feels very angular compared to the 3G. The iPhone 3G models feel more refined in the hand.

Features:
The iPhone4 has the same 1GHz A4 processor used in the iPad. The RAM has been doubled to 512MB. You can even take pictures of text and the rendering is crystal clear. Applications open quickly and browsing the web is zippy. However, the iPhone doesn’t support Flash. This is one point where Google’s Android devices win over the iPhone 4. However, the device is just as fast as any of the competitive Smartphones.
Depending on what service provider or where you happen to be when using the iPhone, you may have great or disappointing results. Calls are much clearer due to the addition of a secondary mic that is located on top of the phone next to the head phone jack. This acts to filter out background noises like the wind. However, many US iPhone users complained of poor reception when they had a firm grip on the phone. Some Apple detractors refer to this as Antennagate.
Antennagate is the condition that occurs when you grip the iPhone 4 in what some people laughingly refer to as the “death grip”. Since the silver metal that wraps around the phone is also the antenna, iPhone 4 owners complained that the phone looses antenna strength while they grip the phone. This seems to be more of a problem with AT&T subscribers in the USA and not so much in Australia or the UK. In general, the problem is more prevalent when you are in an area that doesn’t offer good coverage. (Isn’t that the same for all mobile phones??) Apple offers a free plastic cover that solves the problem and protects the phone from scratches.
Despite antenna design issues, Apple’s iPhone 4 is a great option for people ready for a Smartphone solution. Its outstanding touch display design and excellent camera make it an ideal solution multi-function phone.
